Key Players Information supplied byKathy Turner Aragorn -- Soldier and King-in-waiting. He is the descendent of ancient king of Gondor, and is the leader of the Dúnedain. He was raised by the elven lord Elrond in Rivendell. There he became a close friend to Gandalf.Arwen -- She is the daughter of Elrond and the betrothed of Aragorn. Her dark beauty earned her the name Evenstar among her people (the Elves). Bilbo Baggins -- A Hobbit of the Shire. His nephew is Frodo Baggins who inherits Bilbo's estate. Being 111 years old, he decided to leave the Shire for the wild places he had came to love so well. On that birthday, he left all his possessions to Frodo, including the One Ring, and vanished from Hobbiton forever. Boromir -- The eldest son of the Steward of Gondor. He's proud, strong, and skilled in combat. He travelled to Rivendell in response to a dream he shared with his brother Faramir, and is included in the company of the Ring. Elrond - Half-Elven -- Elf-lord and high ranking member of the Eldar. Elrond established the refuge of Rivendell against the darkness of Sauron. Frodo Baggins -- A Hobbit of the Shire and main character in this series. Gandalf urges Frodo to travel to Rivendell and is charged with the ultimate task of taking The Ring back to the only place where it can be unmade: The Cracks of Doom beneath Mount Ordruin (The very heart of Sauron's Power). Gandalf -- A wizard and member of the White Council. He's the driving force behind the quest to destroy the Ring. He appears as an old man, but actually is a being of great power, sent by the Valar to consent evil in Middle-earth. Gimli -- A Dwarf of Erebor (a.k.a. The Lonely Mountain), son of Glóin. Gimli accompanies his father to Rivendell. There he is chosen to join the Fellowship of the Ring as a representative of the Dwarven people. Gollum -- A hobbit of the Stoor family and a long-time keeper of the One Ring. Originally named Smeagol. He was so consumed by the Ring it physically transformed him into a distorted creature of considerable wretchedness. He later lost the ring in the tunnels under the Misty Mountains. Legolas Greenleaf -- A Sindarin Elf from the Woodland Realm of Mirkwood. Son of Elven King Thranduil. Tall, fair, and graceful. A member of the Fellowship. Merry (Meriadoc) Brandybuck -- Hobbit from the Shire. Cousin to Frodo Baggins. Joins Frodo on his journey to Rivendell. Another member of the Fellowship. Pippin (Peregin) Took -- Another Hobbit and close friend to Frodo. Youngest and most impulsive of the Hobbits. He's noted for his heartedness and loyalty. He has a concern for Frodo which drives him to join journey to Rivendell. Another member of the Fellowship. Samwise (Sam) Gamgee -- Man-servant and side-kick to Frodo. He's confident and concscientious. He accompanies Frodo and is also member of the Fellowship. Saruman -- A wizard, leader of the White Council and highest of the Istari. Has made study of the One Ring his life's work. Most have long considered Saruman the wisest of the wise, unaware of the darkness in his heart created by his lust for the One Ring. |
