Day Of The Lord
or, The Lord's Day

Many misunderstand the day of the Lord, for it is a day of judgment -- a day of reward to the righteous, but a day of destruction to the ungodly and disobedient. It is a time of trouble, despair, and woe. Even the innocent and righteous often suffer during a day of the Lord's visitation. When the Roman armies were about to unleash the judgment of God upon the disobedient Jews, the apostle John, in Revelation, says that it was the Lord's day. - Bernie Parsons

The fire of God purifies and removes the dross, or the waste material in
the life of the believer. To the unbeliever, the fire of God consumes
and destroys.
I want to first address those who want to see “the Day of the Lord” come
upon them.
Amos 5:18 “Woe unto you that desire the day of the LORD! to what end is
it for you? the day of the LORD is darkness, and not light.
19 As if a man did flee from a lion, and a bear met him; or went into
the house, and leaned his hand on the wall, and a serpent bit him.
20 Shall not the day of the LORD be darkness, and not light? even very
dark, and no brightness in it?"
The day of the Lord is a day of trouble, wrath and vengeance of God
against His enemies. There have been many visitations of the Lord upon
the earth, days of darkness, despair and desolation.
Isaiah 13:6 "Howl ye; for the day of the LORD is at hand; it shall come
as a destruction from the Almighty."
Isaiah 13:9 "Behold, the day of the LORD cometh, cruel both with wrath
and fierce anger, to lay the land desolate: and he shall destroy the
sinners thereof out of it.
10 For the stars of heaven and the constellations thereof shall not give
their light: the sun shall be darkened in his going forth, and the moon
shall not cause her light to shine."
Isaiah 13:13 "Therefore I will shake the heavens, and the earth shall
remove out of her place, in the wrath of the LORD of hosts, and in the
day of his fierce anger."
Isaiah 24:19 "The earth is utterly broken down, the earth is clean
dissolved, the earth is moved exceedingly.
20 The earth shall reel to and fro like a drunkard, and shall be removed
like a cottage; and the transgression thereof shall be heavy upon it;
and it shall fall, and not rise again.
21 And it shall come to pass in that day, that the LORD shall punish the
host of the high ones that are on high, and the kings of the earth upon
the earth.
22 And they shall be gathered together, as prisoners are gathered in the
pit, and shall be shut up in the prison, and after many days shall they
be visited.
23 Then the moon shall be confounded, and the sun ashamed, when the LORD
of hosts shall reign in mount Zion, and in Jerusalem, and before his
ancients gloriously."
Zephaniah 1:14 "The great day of the LORD is near, it is near, and
hasteth greatly, even the voice of the day of the LORD: the mighty man
shall cry there bitterly.
15 That day is a day of wrath, a day of trouble and distress, a day of
wasteness and desolation, a day of darkness and gloominess, a day of
clouds and thick darkness,
16 A day of the trumpet and alarm against the fenced cities, and against
the high towers.
17 And I will bring distress upon men, that they shall walk like blind
men, because they have sinned against the LORD: and their blood shall be
poured out as dust, and their flesh as the dung.
18 Neither their silver nor their gold shall be able to deliver them in
the day of the LORD'S wrath; but the whole land shall be devoured by the
fire of his jealousy: for he shall make even a speedy riddance of all
them that dwell in the land."
Zephaniah 2:1 “Gather yourselves together, yea, gather together, O
nation not desired;
2 Before the decree bring forth, before the day pass as the chaff,
before the fierce anger of the LORD come upon you, before the day of the
LORD'S anger come upon you.
3 Seek ye the LORD, all ye meek of the earth, which have wrought his
judgment; seek righteousness, seek meekness: it may be ye shall be hid
in the day of the LORD'S anger.”
Lamentations 2:1 “How hath the Lord covered the daughter of Zion with a
cloud in his anger, and cast down from heaven unto the earth the beauty
of Israel, and remembered not his footstool in the day of his anger!
2 The Lord hath swallowed up all the habitations of Jacob, and hath not
pitied: he hath thrown down in his wrath the strong holds of the
daughter of Judah; he hath brought them down to the ground: he hath
polluted the kingdom and the princes thereof.
3 He hath cut off in his fierce anger all the horn of Israel: he hath
drawn back his right hand from before the enemy, and he burned against
Jacob like a flaming fire, which devoureth round about.
4 He hath bent his bow like an enemy: he stood with his right hand as an
adversary, and slew all that were pleasant to the eye in the tabernacle
of the daughter of Zion: he poured out his fury like fire.”
Zechariah 13:8 “And it shall come to pass, that in all the land, saith
the LORD, two parts therein shall be cut off and die; but the third
shall be left therein.
9 And I will bring the third part through the fire, and will refine them
as silver is refined, and will try them as gold is tried: they shall
call on my name, and I will hear them: I will say, It is my people: and
they shall say, The LORD is my God."
Malachi 3:1 "Behold, I will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the
way before me: and the Lord, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to his
temple, even the messenger of the covenant, whom ye delight in: behold,
he shall come, saith the LORD of hosts.
2 But who may abide the day of his coming? and who shall stand when he
appeareth? for he is like a refiner's fire, and like fullers' soap:
3 And he shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver: and he shall
purify the sons of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver, that they
may offer unto the LORD an offering in righteousness.
4 Then shall the offering of Judah and Jerusalem be pleasant unto the
LORD, as in the days of old, and as in former years.
5 And I will come near to you to judgment; and I will be a swift witness
against the sorcerers, and against the adulterers, and against false
swearers, and against those that oppress the hireling in his wages, the
widow, and the fatherless, and that turn aside the stranger from his
right, and fear not me, saith the LORD of hosts."
Malachi 4:5 "Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the
coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD:"
Matthew 11:13 "For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John.
14 And if ye will receive it, this is Elias, which was for to come."
Read Joel Chapter 2 to get a good summary of the day of the Lord.
Acts 2:16 "But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel;"
Acts 2:20 "The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into
blood, before that great and notable day of the Lord come:
21 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of
the Lord shall be saved."
Romans 2:3 “And thinkest thou this, O man, that judgest them which do
such things, and doest the same, that thou shalt escape the judgment of
God?
4 Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and
longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to
repentance?
5 But after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up unto thyself
wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment
of God;
6 Who will render to every man according to his deeds:
7 To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and
honour and immortality, eternal life:
8 But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but
obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath,
9 Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that doeth evil, of
the Jew first, and also of the Gentile;
10 But glory, honour, and peace, to every man that worketh good, to the
Jew first, and also to the Gentile:
11 For there is no respect of persons with God."
Hebrews 10:24 "And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and
to good works:
25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of
some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the
day approaching."
Revelation 1:10 "I was in the Spirit on the Lord's day, and heard behind
me a great voice, as of a trumpet,
11 Saying, I am Alpha and Omega, the first and the last: and, What thou
seest, write in a book, and send it unto the seven churches which are in
Asia; unto Ephesus, and unto Smyrna, and unto Pergamos, and unto
Thyatira, and unto Sardis, and unto Philadelphia, and unto Laodicea."
God is a fire of purification to the righteous, and a fire of
destruction to the disobedient. Always.
