King of All May 22, 2016 When it was prophesied that the Christ would sit on the throne of David, it was also said to be an eternal kingship. Jesus came to fulfill those prophecies, but many misunderstood the kingdom. It was the kingdom of God, the kingdom of heaven, whose capital was the new, heavenly Jerusalem. It is a kingdom not of this world, and one not inherited by flesh and blood. - Bernie Parsons |

King of All
A sermon by Bernie Parsons

We read how the Jewish “church” leadership declared that Jesus must die
to save the nation from ruin by the Romans. Unwittingly, they set the
scene for the true kingship of Jesus.
John 11:48 “If we let him thus alone, all men will believe on him: and
the Romans shall come and take away both our place and nation.
49 And one of them, named Caiaphas, being the high priest that same
year, said unto them, Ye know nothing at all,
50 Nor consider that it is expedient for us, that one man should die for
the people, and that the whole nation perish not.
51 And this spake he not of himself: but being high priest that year, he
prophesied that Jesus should die for that nation;
52 And not for that nation only, but that also he should gather together
in one the children of God that were scattered abroad.”
But, the nearsighted Jewish leaders concentrated on removing Jesus by
means of His death.
John 19:12 "And from thenceforth Pilate sought to release him: but the
Jews cried out, saying, If thou let this man go, thou art not Caesar's
friend: whosoever maketh himself a king speaketh against Caesar.
13 When Pilate therefore heard that saying, he brought Jesus forth, and
sat down in the judgment seat in a place that is called the Pavement,
but in the Hebrew, Gabbatha.
14 And it was the preparation of the passover, and about the sixth hour:
and he saith unto the Jews, Behold your King!
15 But they cried out, Away with him, away with him, crucify him. Pilate
saith unto them, Shall I crucify your King? The chief priests answered,
We have no king but Caesar."
John 18:33 "Then Pilate entered into the judgment hall again, and called
Jesus, and said unto him, Art thou the King of the Jews?
34 Jesus answered him, Sayest thou this thing of thyself, or did others
tell it thee of me?
35 Pilate answered, Am I a Jew? Thine own nation and the chief priests
have delivered thee unto me: what hast thou done?
36 Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were
of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be
delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence.
37 Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered,
Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause
came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every
one that is of the truth heareth my voice."
The prophets had said that Christ would be king. The angel of the Lord
witnessed to Mary.
Acts 2:29 "Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the
patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulchre is
with us unto this day.
30 Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an
oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he
would raise up Christ to sit on his throne;
31 He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his
soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption.
32 This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses.
33 Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received
of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this,
which ye now see and hear."
Luke 1:30 "And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast
found favour with God.
31 And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son,
and shalt call his name JESUS.
32 He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and
the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David:
33 And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his
kingdom there shall be no end."
The apostles were at first unsure of the nature of the kingdom of
Christ.
Luke 19:11 "And as they heard these things, he added and spake a
parable, because he was nigh to Jerusalem, and because they thought that
the kingdom of God should immediately appear."
The apostles looked for Jesus to sit on the throne of David in
Jerusalem.
Acts 1:6 "When they therefore were come together, they asked of him,
saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to
Israel?
7 And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the
seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power."
Jesus told Pilate His kingdom is not of this world and the Pharisees
that you cannot see it.
Luke 17:20 "And when he was demanded of the Pharisees, when the kingdom
of God should come, he answered them and said, The kingdom of God cometh
not with observation:
21 Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the
kingdom of God is within you."
1 Corinthians 15:50 "Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood
cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit
incorruption."
The new Jerusalem is the heavenly city, not an earthly one.
Hebrews 13:14 "For here have we no continuing city, but we seek one to
come."
Hebrews 12:22 "But ye are come unto mount Sion, and unto the city of the
living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of
angels,
23 To the general assembly and church of the firstborn, which are
written in heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of
just men made perfect,
24 And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of
sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel."
Revelation 3:12 "Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple
of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the
name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new
Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write
upon him my new name."
God’s kingdom is an eternal kingdom. Jesus sits at the right hand of
God.
Hebrew 12:28 "Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved,
let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence
and godly fear:"
Hebrews 1:8 "But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever
and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom.
9 Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even
thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows."
Hebrews 12:1 "Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great
a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which
doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is
set before us,
2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the
joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and
is set down at the right hand of the throne of God."
All power was given to Jesus.
Matthew 28:18 "And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is
given unto me in heaven and in earth."
When all is subdued, Jesus returns the kingdom to God.
1 Corinthians 15:24 "Then cometh the end, when he shall have delivered
up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have put down all
rule and all authority and power.
25 For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet.
26 The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.
27 For he hath put all things under his feet. But when he saith all
things are put under him, it is manifest that he is excepted, which did
put all things under him.
