Seven Things That God Hates June 30, 2013 We can understand what God expects of us. He has revealed His ways to us. One of the passages that helps illuminate His thinking is the one that deals with seven abominations, or things that God hates. Once we know those, we can make sure that they are not a part of our lives, and can move on to do those things that He wants us to do. Bernie Parsons |

People who seek to understand God and His will are often confused as to what
He expects. Many do not study the Bible, which reveals God’s thinking. Here
is a key passage that quickly lays out some of the things that we must avoid
because that God hate s them.
Proverbs 6:16 "These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an
abomination unto him:
17 A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,
18 An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running
to mischief,
19 A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among
brethren." (1) A Proud Look – literally, a haughty outward appearance.
Psalms 101:5 "Whoso privily slandereth his neighbour, him will I cut off:
him that hath an high look and a proud heart will not I suffer."
Proverbs 21:4 "An high look, and a proud heart, and the plowing of the
wicked, is sin." (2) A Lying Tongue
Proverbs 12:22 "Lying lips are abomination to the LORD: but they that deal
truly are his delight."
Ephesians 4:25 "Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his
neighbour: for we are members one of another."
John 8:44 "Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye
will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth,
because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his
own: for he is a liar, and the father of it."
Revelation 21:8 "But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and
murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars,
shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone:
which is the second death." (3) Hands That Shed Innocent Blood
Exodus 20:13 "Thou shalt not kill."
Psalms 106:37 "Yea, they sacrificed their sons and their daughters unto
devils,
38 And shed innocent blood, even the blood of their sons and of their
daughters, whom they sacrificed unto the idols of Canaan: and the land was
polluted with blood."
James 2:11 "For he that said, Do not commit adultery, said also, Do not
kill. Now if thou commit no adultery, yet if thou kill, thou art become a
transgressor of the law.
12 So speak ye, and so do, as they that shall be judged by the law of
liberty."
1 John 3:15 "Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no
murderer hath eternal life abiding in him."
Matthew 5:21 "Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt
not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment:
22 But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a
cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his
brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say,
Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire." (4) A Heart That Devises Wicked Imaginations, or plans
Jeremiah 7:23 "But this thing commanded I them, saying, Obey my voice, and I
will be your God, and ye shall be my people: and walk ye in all the ways
that I have commanded you, that it may be well unto you.
24 But they hearkened not, nor inclined their ear, but walked in the
counsels and in the imagination of their evil heart, and went backward, and
not forward."
Jeremiah 18:11 "Now therefore go to, speak to the men of Judah, and to the
inhabitants of Jerusalem, saying, Thus saith the LORD; Behold, I frame evil
against you, and devise a device against you: return ye now every one from
his evil way, and make your ways and your doings good.
12 And they said, There is no hope: but we will walk after our own devices,
and we will every one do the imagination of his evil heart."
1 Peter 2:1 "Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and
hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings,
2 As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow
thereby:"
Matthew 15:18 "But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth
from the heart; and they defile the man.
19 For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries,
fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies:"
(5)
Feet That Swiftly Run To Do Mischief
- that is, to cause injury or hurt
1 Corinthians 5:8 "Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven,
neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened
bread of sincerity and truth."
Mark 7:21 "For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts,
adulteries, fornications, murders,
22 Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye,
blasphemy, pride, foolishness:
23 All these evil things come from within, and defile the man."
(6)
A False Witness Who Speaks Lies
– a deceiving witness who lies
Exodus 20:16 "Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour."
Matthew 15:18 "But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth
from the heart; and they defile the man.
19 For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries,
fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies:"
Romans 13:9 “For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill,
Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not
covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in
this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
10 Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of
the law."
(7)
He Who Sows Discord Among Brothers
– sends or spreads discord among kindred
Proverbs 26:20 "Where no wood is, there the fire goeth out: so where there
is no talebearer, the strife ceaseth.
21 As coals are to burning coals, and wood to fire; so is a contentious man
to kindle strife.
22 The words of a talebearer are as wounds, and they go down into the
innermost parts of the belly."
James 4:11 "Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaketh evil
of his brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and
judgeth the law: but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law,
but a judge.
12 There is one lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy: who art thou
that judgest another?"
2 Corinthians 13:11 "Finally, brethren, farewell. Be perfect, be of good
comfort, be of one mind, live in peace; and the God of love and peace shall
be with you."
By studying the things that God hates, and removing those things from our lives, we can move closer to being the kind of person that God wants us to be.
