What Happened To Jesus November 17, 2013 We recently studied about the strength of Jesus during great adversity. Today, I want to take a look at some of the things that happened to Jesus. The scriptures provide little insight into the horrors of the treatment of Jesus, or His mindset and emotional state. They concentrate, instead, upon the triumph of the resurrection of our Lord. Try to put yourself into His place and think about what you would feel if this were to be done to you. He suffered greatly before returning to God His father in heaven in glory.

What Happened To Jesus

I spoke last time about the meekness of Jesus Christ. He was led as a sheep
to the slaughter, yet was mild toward his persecutors, captors and
executioners.
Betrayed
Mark 14:43 "And immediately, while he yet spake, cometh Judas, one of the
twelve, and with him a great multitude with swords and staves, from the
chief priests and the scribes and the elders.
44 And he that betrayed him had given them a token, saying, Whomsoever I
shall kiss, that same is he; take him, and lead him away safely.
45 And as soon as he was come, he goeth straightway to him, and saith,
Master, master; and kissed him.
46 And they laid their hands on him, and took him."
Abandoned
Luke 22:31 "And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to
have you, that he may sift you as wheat:
32 But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art
converted, strengthen thy brethren.
33 And he said unto him, Lord, I am ready to go with thee, both into prison,
and to death.
34 And he said, I tell thee, Peter, the cock shall not crow this day, before
that thou shalt thrice deny that thou knowest me."
Luke 22:54 "Then took they him, and led him, and brought him into the high
priest's house. And Peter followed afar off.
55 And when they had kindled a fire in the midst of the hall, and were set
down together, Peter sat down among them.
56 But a certain maid beheld him as he sat by the fire, and earnestly looked
upon him, and said, This man was also with him.
57 And he denied him, saying, Woman, I know him not.
58 And after a little while another saw him, and said, Thou art also of
them. And Peter said, Man, I am not.
59 And about the space of one hour after another confidently affirmed,
saying, Of a truth this fellow also was with him: for he is a Galilaean.
60 And Peter said, Man, I know not what thou sayest. And immediately, while
he yet spake, the cock crew.
61 And the Lord turned, and looked upon Peter. And Peter remembered the word
of the Lord, how he had said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny
me thrice.
62 And Peter went out, and wept bitterly."
Beaten
Luke 23:14 "Said unto them, Ye have brought this man unto me, as one that
perverteth the people: and, behold, I, having examined him before you, have
found no fault in this man touching those things whereof ye accuse him:
15 No, nor yet Herod: for I sent you to him; and, lo, nothing worthy of
death is done unto him.
16 I will therefore chastise him, and release him."
Luke 23:22 "And he said unto them the third time, Why, what evil hath he
done? I have found no cause of death in him: I will therefore chastise him,
and let him go."
John 19:1 ”Then Pilate therefore took Jesus, and
scourged him.”
Mocked
Matthew 27:27 "Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the common
hall, and gathered unto him the whole band of soldiers.
28 And they stripped him, and put on him a scarlet robe.
29 And when they had platted a crown of thorns, they put it upon his head,
and a reed in his right hand: and they bowed the knee before him, and mocked
him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews!
30 And they spit upon him, and took the reed, and smote him on the head.
31 And after that they had mocked him, they took the robe off from him, and
put his own raiment on him, and led him away to crucify him."
Crucified
John 19:16 “Then delivered he him therefore unto them to be crucified. And
they took Jesus, and led him away.
17 And he bearing his cross went forth into a place called the place of a
skull, which is called in the Hebrew Golgotha:
18 Where they crucified him, and two other with him, on either side one, and
Jesus in the midst.”
John 19:28 “After this, Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished,
that the scripture might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst.
29 Now there was set a vessel full of vinegar: and they filled a spunge with
vinegar, and put it upon hyssop, and put it to his mouth.
30 When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished:
and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.
31 The Jews therefore, because it was the preparation, that the bodies
should not remain upon the cross on the sabbath day, (for that sabbath day
was an high day,) besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that
they might be taken away.
32 Then came the soldiers, and brake the legs of the first, and of the other
which was crucified with him.
33 But when they came to Jesus, and saw that he was dead already, they brake
not his legs:
34 But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came
there out blood and water.
35 And he that saw it bare record, and his record is true: and he knoweth
that he saith true, that ye might believe.”
Resurrected
Matthew 28:1 "In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the
first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the
sepulchre.
2 And, behold, there was a great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord
descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and
sat upon it.
3 His countenance was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow:
4 And for fear of him the keepers did shake, and became as dead men.
5 And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know
that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified.
6 He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the
Lord lay.
7 And go quickly, and tell his disciples that he is risen from the dead;
and, behold, he goeth before you into Galilee; there shall ye see him: lo, I
have told you.
8 And they departed quickly from the sepulchre with fear and great joy; and
did run to bring his disciples word.
9 And as they went to tell his disciples, behold, Jesus met them, saying,
All hail. And they came and held him by the feet, and worshipped him.
10 Then said Jesus unto them, Be not afraid: go tell my brethren that they
go into Galilee, and there shall they see me."
Ascended
Acts 1:1 "The former treatise have I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus
began both to do and teach,
2 Until the day in which he was taken up, after that he through the Holy
Ghost had given commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen:
3 To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible
proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining
to the kingdom of God:
4 And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should
not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which,
saith he, ye have heard of me.”
Acts 1:8 “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon
you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea,
and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
9 And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up;
and a cloud received him out of their sight.
10 And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two
men stood by them in white apparel;
